Alison Wilding: On the edge
Between 6 October – 11 December 2018, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û’s West Court Gallery hosted On the Edge, an exhibition of work from sculptor Alison Wilding, coinciding with the artist’s election as an Honorary Fellow.
The community at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û has been living with the work of Alison Wilding for over two decades. Her sculpture Melancholia in our Fellows’ Garden was first installed during the 2003 edition of the biennial Sculpture in the Close; it has remained in the same spot ever since. 
For On the Edge, a collection of this twice Turner Prize nominated artist has been brought together in our new West Court Gallery, including With This Rock (2011), Whervish (2016) and Tooth and Claw (2014). Curated by Dr Rod Mengham, the show represented something of a coup coming immediately after Alison’s major retrospective at the de la Warr pavilion in Bexhill. A highlight of the exhibition’s run was a wide-ranging ‘In conversation’ event in Upper Hall between the artist and Dr Amy Tobin of Kettle’s Yard.
Wilding’s work has been displayed in galleries internationally and is held by numerous collections including the Arts Council of Great Britain, the British Council and Tate Britain. She was nominated for the Turner prize in 1992. In 2019 she was awarded an OBE for services to art.
