Sarah Morris: The Stars Down to Earth
The Stars Down to Earth, which showed between 12 October – 15 December 2019, was a rare chance to see works by Sarah Morris as part of celebrations marking 40 years since the admission of female undergraduates to ϲʿ.
Sarah Morris is a leading New York-based abstract artist and ϲʿ alumna. She was an ideal choice for a monographic show, the possibility arising through Dr Mengham’s long-standing links with White Cube in London, who also represent the artist in New York.
Known for her powerful geometric reflections on urban modernity, Sarah Morris has been making abstract paintings and films to investigate what she describes as “urban, social and bureaucratic typologies”. Three of Sarah Morris’s films were shown in the Frankopan Hall, including two of her powerful city portraits (Midtown, 1998, and Capital, 2000) as well as her interview with the Hollywood scriptwriter Robert Towne (2006).
The event was organised in conjunction with the Fitzwilliam Museum Society and JCSU Art Committee.
